# The Verdalia Desktop App

Verdalia in its own window, holding a place in your dock instead of a browser tab.

## Prerequisites

Linux on x86_64, and Flatpak. Most desktops ship it; otherwise see
[flathub.org/setup](https://flathub.org/setup).

## The app and your workspace

The app is a window onto the workspace you already have. One account, one set of data: a task you
add in the app is there in the browser, and the other way round.

Three things follow from that.

**Your session lives in the browser.** Signing in opens your browser, where your existing Verdalia
session, password manager, and passkeys already are. Authorize once and the app stays signed in
across restarts.

**Links leave the app.** Anything that would have opened a tab opens your browser instead.

**The workspace still comes from the server.** The window opens straight away, then loads your
content. With no connection you get the window and an error, not a stale copy.

## Install it

**1. Verify what you downloaded.** From the directory holding the file and its checksums:

```
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
```

If that does not print `OK`, download it again rather than installing.

**2. Install it.**

```
flatpak install --user ./verdalia-linux-x86_64.flatpak
```

**Note**: the first Flatpak app on a machine also pulls a shared runtime, which takes a few
minutes. Later installs reuse it.

**3. Open it and sign in.** Launch Verdalia from your applications menu, or run
`flatpak run io.verdalia.Verdalia`. Choose sign in, then authorize the app in the browser tab that
opens.

## Updating and removing

A new version is a new download from the [Downloads page](/downloads); installing it replaces the
old one and keeps you signed in.

To remove it:

```
flatpak uninstall --user io.verdalia.Verdalia
```

Add `--delete-data` to clear the local session as well. Neither touches your workspace, which
lives on the server.

**Note**: a window that opens blank or draws badly is usually graphics acceleration. Run
`flatpak run io.verdalia.Verdalia --disable-gpu` to confirm it.
